    Can’t believe I did that

Ex: Don't spend a lot of money on specialty organic juice to make an amazing cider, then decide at the last minute that the lonely, unused can of non-organic FAJC in the freezer should bump the ABV up a bit and then not read the ingredients, thereby throwing in some yeast-killing preservatives...

APA, IPA, Hoppy Lager. But there are also on tap at least one cider or sour and one dark beer.

What I did for beer today

Sniffed the Pear-Agave Cider. It's a little egg-farty, but that could be a couple things. I used a new wine yeast for this batch, so maybe it sulfurs up naturally. Or, and I realized this after I was worried the lag time might be too long, I didn't look at the ingredients for the FAJC (it was...

    Dry hop bag question

I cold-crash below 50F and then dry hop with a solid burst of CO2 from the bottom of the tank up to push out most of the O2 that got in when I opened the lid. I dry hop two days, but if life gets in the way, sometimes longer. Love Janish's book.

What I did for beer today

Cleaned and rebuilt 6 kegs, moved the Barley Wine from barrel to keg-added some Scotch to the barrel, moved the Hibiscus Wheat Saison into a keg with Guava puree as a priming sugar-added Gin to that barrel, made 6G of Pear-Agave Cider. Everything took longer than expected because, well...

No sarcasm, but those frustrations are still golden moments.

What I did for beer today

Got on the roof and laid the hop twine. Pinched off the first shoots. Still need to clean kegs and other cellar work.

    What are you drinking now?

A couple Proper-sized pints of hoppy Pale Ale while frying polenta. Just like grandma used to make! Well, not mine, but someone’s!

What I did for beer today

Yesterday, cold-crashed the IPA and dropped 2 oz. of Mosaic and 2oz. of Citra Cryo into it.

    Good suggestions, thank you!

    Mash Bag vs Malt Pipe

This is where I am headed. As the AIO is on a table with the HLT and BK, I will have to stand on a step ladder to lift the bag out of it. Now, I need some form of armature/hoist so it can hang and drip. I wonder where the studs are in the garage ceiling?

What I did for beer today

Stopped at the LHBS to pick up a replacement SCOBY, some S-05 and some LDME.

    Mash Bag vs Malt Pipe

It’s a double screen, and I normally double crush. Pretty small gap, credit card thick? With a Wilser Bag, I squeeze the poopies out of it and still get clear wort. With the malt pipe, no squeeze, and stuck mash. I am leaning toward either: 1. Single crush grain, and add more to cover the...

    Mash Bag vs Malt Pipe

I’ve never had a stuck mash in 6 years of constant brewing until I started using the malt pipe. But I will try out a batch and see what happens. Thank you!

What I did for beer today

I have found that having a solid quote from an outside service does wonders for the family’s gratitude. “A new one would have cost $1000!!!! Thank you for fixing that that.”

    Mash Bag vs Malt Pipe

This seems like my most likely solution. I am going to have to find a method for hanging the bag. May just have to build something….
